Neues K8N NEO2 Plat. 1.97 & 1.98 Beta Bios

I appologize for not posting in German and also if this has been reported already. It is difficult to search threads in a foreign language.

My system is very stable using bios 1.8
I flashed 1.9b8 and the flash is successful. WinXP works okay. Stress tests run okay.
During POST, if I press the DEL key to access the bios menus, my screen is black with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. System is locked up. This also occurs if I flash 1.9b8MOD. I flash back to 1.80 and everything is okay.

I have tried:

Flash from floppy
Flash from Ramdrive
Flash from Winflash
Remove power and clear CMOS
Remove all unnecessary peripherals
Use only 1 RAM stick
Many other things

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,

Hoot

hmm, this sounds familiar to me... had this problem also... reflashing the same BIOS again with another clear cmos resolved this issue at my pc...

be shure that you have performed a very very good clear cmos so all parameters are cleared very well as the new 1.9X is a new kind of BIOS with other structure...

good luck :D

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, it did not help this situation.

I tried:

Flash = No enter Bios Setup, WinXP works okay
Flash / Clear CMOS = No enter Bios Setup, WinXP works okay
Flash / Repeat Flash = No enter Bios Setup, WinXP works okay
Flash / Clear CMOS / Repeat Flash = No enter Bios Setup, WinXP works okay
Flash / Repeat Flash / Repeat Flash = No enter Bios Setup, WinXP works okay
Flash / Clear CMOS / Repeat Flash / Clear CMOS = No enter Bios Setup, WinXP works okay
Flash / Clear CMOS /Repeat Flash / Clear CMOS / Repeat Flash = No enter Bios Setup, WinXP works okay

This is very unusual to me. If the Bios flash was bad, I could not get WinXP to work. It appears that when I press the DEL key during POST, the bios finishes the POST routines and jumps to the entry address of the Setup process, but that entry address is wrong and the execution stops??? If I do not press the DEL key, the bios finishes the POST routines and jumps to the boot OS routines okay. This also happens with Revision 1.97 flash. I have not tried other 1.9x revisions.

Thanks

I don\'t know much, but I\'ve had display problems with the 19* bios\' such as black screen or video corruption. When I \"cntrl+alt+del\" it goes to normal display. Sounds to me like it could be a video card problem, \"Fastwrites\", or \"SideBand Add\". Maybe a complete reflash with the paramaters /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /r would also cure your problem. Just a suggestion.

Sorry for my \"Anglais\". or lack of German. :p

Thank you for your suggestion. I always use /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /r when I flash a bios. I tried not using them as an experiment, but that did not help my problem. This problem is very enigmatic.

Hello !! :winke

This problem is really bad......let´s try to solve it:

I had heard, some weeks ago, that some persons were experiencing problems when entering Bios Setup, especially with 1.9x Betas !!

The problem was an option in HW Monitoring, the \"Current System Temp.\" was enabled, which caused this problems.

We fixed this from this day on in our 1.9x Beta´s. For this i suggest:
download the file again from this thread in the first post on page 1.

If this doesn´t work, i can tell you something reaaly strange too....
I flashed 1.98mod and nearly everthing was fine, after some days i decided to flash back to 1.8mod. I did it, everthing went fine, but when I entered the bios setup and tried to change the CPU VID option, the system locks up.

Then flashed 5 times with CmosClear and so on......no change....
I could solve the Problem with flashing first 1.6 Bios, and then flashing to 1.8 again.

Perhaps you can post your Bios file you flashed, so i will take a look at it, if the problem is caused by the Current System Temp Option....

Good Luck

Murdok, you may have something there!. Let me explain. My setup has a crucial difference than most people. The Thermal diode pins on my processor have been removed and the diode signal is routed external from the motherboard to be read with a MAX6657. I did that because I design and build water cooling systems and I needed reliable temperature indication. If the 1.9x bios requires information from the thermal diode on the CPU in order to enter the bios setup routine, then that may explain the problem. It obviously does not need it to operate since WinXP and my applications work okay. I will investigate to see how difficult it would be to route the thermal diode signal back to the CPU socket today.

Many thanks for your idea!

Hello!! :winke

Perhaps it´s much easier than making it \"hardwired\". I have created a special 1.98 version without TEMP READING ability in Bios. I hope it will fix your probs.

Good Luck

hoot and murdock and others.

Has anyone experience this issue with ANY of the 1.9x series bios.

i tried 1.9b5x and if my PSU rails are above stock speeds then the bios will not boot hard drive or cdrom or floppy.
here is how i have my psu, i have manually adjusted the rails to a higher setting..
3.3v = 3.5
12v = 12.5
5v = 5.2

If i leave the psu rails like that and use any of the bios the system will POST - OK go into the bios - OK boot hard drive - NO boot cdrom - no boot floppy - no

if i change them back to correct settings
3.3v = 3.3
12v = 12
5v = 5

the system will boot cdrom - ok floppy - ok hard drive - ok.
but this does not work everytime it will only boot maybe 1 out of 10 times.

does the new 1.97 and 1.98 bios work ok if your psu 3.3 12 and 5v rails are overvolted ?

also what other issues are there ?
My venice is havine a very hard time running on this mobo.
the voltages do not work properly.
using 3.3% 5% 8.3% and 10% over VID the system reports very wierd vcore readings. usually they are anywhere from .025v to .10v wrong.
bios = 1.7
corecent - cpu-z = 1.6

bios = 1.6
corecenter - cpu-z = 1.5 or 1.45

why ? and does the 1.97 or 1.98 fix this ?

Is there chanse that we get some non beta bios during this week?
Seems to me \"beta\" indicates all is not stable...yet. \"non\" = \"final\". I don\'t think so for K8n neo2 Plat. Beta is the \"nature of the beast\". :]

Murdok, this latest bios 1.98 boots ok for me. Although I don\'t overclock, it seems to be fairly stable with no \"obvious\" boot problems.
Wish you could do something with NCQ. ?(

Oh and P.S. Thanx for your hard work! :]

1.98 works good even with overvolting psu rails.
NO USB 2.0
Voltages for Venice are still wrong. But this is MSI problem not Murdock
bios = 1.65, corecenter = 1.575~1.6
POST very fast. wow
It takes a while for the Windows XP loading screen to show. this is an old issue. i wonder if its a problem with the nvraid bios.
Temp readings seem wrong.

my same voltages and setting with the 1.8mod bios shows temps roughly 4-5 deg higher at idle. Load temps seems about right.
Idle temps b4 were 33-34
idle temps now 28-29

this feels like a good bios lets hope that msi doesnt screw it up.

voltages are wrong Glurak
this is the same for all venice and neo2 and also some of the dfi board.

i set the bios to 1.6 and reboot. go into PC Health and it says 1.55 sometimes 1.45

I set the bios for 1.65 then reboot go into PC Health and it says 1.55 maybe 1.6

the voltages that you set in the bios are NOT what they really are.

right now i have my bios set for 1.65 and its not 1.65 its 1.6 in pc health and core center and cpu-z

usb does Not work if you have USB - \"Enabled\" how do you make USB 2.0 work ?

have you the mod bios ?
in the mod198 from murdok it works..
=>voltages
hm i set 1,52 (1,450 + 0,5% ) and the pc health status says 1,52 and windows says also 1,52 ??

Voltages.JPG

for me

bios = 1.55 + 8.3% = 1.67v
Windows and PC Health = 1.575~1.6v

this is the same for all settings. the settings in the bios are wrong.

1.45 + 10% = 1.595 (1.6v)
windows and pc health = 1.5~1.55

1.98mod
3200+ Venice LBBLE 0519 APAW
NEO2 Plat
OCZ Power Stream 600w

CoreCenter Bios PC Health CPU-Z SpeedFan all say the same WRONG voltages.

the mainboard undervolts and overvolts the cpu.. this is a bug..
cpuz.jpg

@load the cpu voltage increases to 1,55
