Hey guys,

I have a MSI PRO Z790-A WIFI motherboard and I'm wondering what's the max. RAM speed the board can deal with. In the manual I found the following specification:

Supports 1R 5600 MHz (by JEDEC & POR)

• 1DPC 1R Max speed up to 7200+ MHz

• 1DPC 2R Max speed up to 6400+ MHz

• 2DPC 1R Max speed up to 6400+ MHz

• 2DPC 2R Max speed up to 5600+ MHz

Let's assume it want to have a total of 32 GB of RAM with two 16BG dimms, and I'm using one dimm per channel, the max. speed is either 7200 or 6400 depending on the R - at least that's my understanding - the question now is, what is the R or how to find it out?

More concrete question is, will I be able to reach the 7200 with the following kit? G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32GB Kit DDR5-7200 CL34

Thanks in advance for your help!

No one because 7200+ is only OC

Depends on the CPU you want use..
For Example i9 13900K memory controller supports: Dual Channel DDR5-5600 (PC5-44800), DDR4-3200 (PC4-25600), 89.6GB/s
If you want use 7200 MHZ you must OC your hardware.
From the specification page:
Memory Support 7200+(OC)/ 7000(OC)/ 6800(OC)/ 6600(OC)/ 6400(OC)/ 6200(OC)/ 6000(OC)/ 5800(OC)/ 5600(JEDEC)/ 5400(JEDEC)/ 5200(JEDEC)/ 5000(JEDEC)/ 4800(JEDEC) MHz
Max. overclocking frequency:
• 1DPC 1R Max speed up to 7200+ MHz
• 1DPC 2R Max speed up to 6600+ MHz
• 2DPC 1R Max speed up to 6400+ MHz
• 2DPC 2R Max speed up to 5600+ MHz
